Whats the point of a brain? A fundamental question that has led Professor Daniel Wolpert to some remarkable conclusions about how and why the brain controls and predicts movement. In a recent talk for TED, Wolpert explores the research that resulted in him receiving the Golden Brain Award.
The sea squirt, a type of marine filter feeder, swims around looking for somewhere to settle down for the rest of its life. Once parked on a rock in a suitable spot it never moves again. So the first thing it does is eat its own brain. While this may seem a little rash to some, for Professor Daniel Wolpert it makes perfect evolutionary sense.
To me its obvious that theres no point in the brain processing or storing anything if it cant have benefits for physical movement, because thats the only way we improve our survival says Wolpert.

SIR Elton John has signed a book deal to tell “the very personal” story of “his life during the AIDS epidemic”.
Love is the Cure: Ending the Global AIDS Epidemic will include Elton’s memories of friends, including Queen singer Freddie Mercury, who lost their lives to the illness.
Sir Elton said he hoped the book would help “break down social barriers and build bridges of compassion” about AIDS.

When a loved one dies unexpectedly in the hospital, getting answers to how and why isn’t as easy as it was 50 years ago.
Back then, doctors would often order a clinical autopsy.

One of the rights that one has when going for supplemental Medicare insurance is free-look time. This means that you are given an opportunity to take up a plan for a certain amount of time and if the Medicare supplemental plan is not satisfactory to you and does not cater fully to your medical needs you have the choice of reverting back to you previous cover and should be refunded the amount spent one the cover taken.
