I wonder if any of you can give me some advise about the Disability Living Allowance. When my husband recently completed the Pulmonary Rehab course one of the lectures had been on DLA and that COPD sufferers should apply and he was advised to do so. We duly sat down with the enormous form and completed it. Only to have a letter today stating that our application had been refused on the grounds that “he can walk over 50 metres in a reasonable manner”. He cannot walk 50m – thats just it – he can but with much stopping and starting and it completely depends on the environment. He can hardly walk 5m in the wind or cold. According to the letter the information has been gathered from the surgerys notes, recent test results (the latest spirometry clearly shows “severe obstruction”). Has anyone come up against this and it it worth appealing?
Any comments would be appreciated. TAD
