Sexual dysfunction therapy is designed to help those who exhibit physical or medical conditions leading to a declining sex life. The treatment methods for sexual dysfunction will primarily depend on the direct cause of the problem. For instance if the cause of the dysfunction is psychological, treatment methods will include counseling. If the cause is physical then the treatment is geared toward finding the condition that is leading to sexual dysfunction.

For physical causes, medical treatments often include lubricating gels, creams or suppositories that are designed to make sex more comfortable. Topical estrogens are also prescribed for women in menopause that may be experiencing dryness, insensitivity or vaginal thinning that can lead to discomfort during intercourse.

Campbell Co. of Canada is trying to distance itself from controversy after its U.S.-based parent company announced plans last week to put more salt back into some of its soups.

The move, which sparked a storm of criticism, is designed to boost flavour and attract more customers in response to lagging sales. But it took many medical experts, health advocates and consumers by surprise because the company has been at the forefront of efforts in recent years to cut the amount of salt that is added to packaged and processed foods.

Denise Morrison, incoming chief executive officer of Campbell Soup Co., told an investors meeting last week the company would increase the amount of salt in soups sold under the Select Harvest brand.

MONDAY, July 18 (HealthDay News) — Since their advent in the mid-1990s, powerful antiretroviral therapies have radically improved the life expectancy of HIV-infected patients in the developed world.

Now, research suggests that when made affordable and accessible, the same drug cocktails are equally effective for African patients.

Based on other recent studies, “we also now know that even in a resource-poor environment such as Africa, these treatments can actually prevent the spread of new infections to other people,” Mills added.

His team released their findings online July 18 in advance of publication in the Aug.

Thumbs-Up, Conditionally: An FDA advisory panel unanimously recommended the accelerated approval of brentuximab vodotin, an experimental lymphoma drug that Seattle Genetics wants to market under the brand name Adcetris, the WSJ reports. A study on coronary heart disease has found that family doctors misdiagnose patients as not having CHD.

Of the 180 patients in the study, 31.7 percent had originally been misdiagnosed.

When a patient presents with chest pain as the main symptom, the family doctor has to decide whether immediate action is called for or whether watchful waiting is an option.

In this diagnostic cross-sectional study Stefan Bosner and his colleagues evaluated the data of a total of 1249 patients over the age of 35 years who presented to 74 participating family doctors with chest pain.

From this data pool, Bosner and colleagues extracted the doctors’ initial suspected diagnosis in respect of coronary heart disease (CHD).

In a total of 57 patients the doctor wrongly suspected another cause than CHD for the chest pain.

Nevertheless, the family doctors still referred one in three of the patients given such a false negative diagnosis to a cardiologist.

In view of the number of missed cases of CHD, there is an argument for considering a diagnosis of CHD in patients with less pronounced symptoms.

However, the researchers believe that if the “diagnostic threshold” were to be lowered, the result would be a dramatic rise in false positive diagnoses.

The results have been published in the current edition of Deutsches Arzteblatt International.
