Maybe its because dinner is only an hour away, but some of the winners of the Center for Science in the Public Interests annual Xtreme Eating Awards actually sound pretty good.

Take the Dennys Fried Cheese Melt, for example. Four fried mozzarella sticks and melted American cheese on sourdough, plus a side of fries, would go down fairly easy right now, especially with a Cold Stone Creamery PB&C (for peanut butter and chocolate) shake as a chaser.

Then again, if we actually did combine those into a meal, wed be getting 3,270 calories and 89 grams of saturated fat.

Is there anything that says summer in America like cruising with the windows low and the tunes on high? Too bad the activity may be a health hazard, according to a new study from researchers at the University of Washington, Seattle, studying skin cancer occurrence in the U.S.

Analyzing skin cancer cases in a federal database, the researchers found that when skin cancer occurred on one side of the body, it was more often the left side: 52% of melanoma cases and 53% of Merkel cell carcinoma cases — two particularly deadly types of skin cancer — occurred on the left side. Aug. 6, 2010 — Green laser pointers may emit high levels of invisible and potentially dangerous infrared light, a new study says.

Researchers report that green laser pointers deliver light that is brighter to the eye than red lasers, but the infrared light emitted by some inexpensive models could damage the retina of the eye.

Charles Clark, PhD, of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), led a research team measuring the output of several green laser pointers.
